While many of us like to try the latest, most-cutting edge treatments for what causes hot flashes, natural remedies are now being returned to as a treatment. Hot flashes, also known as hot flushes, or night hot flashes, are a common symptom of menopause. Hot flashes are characterized by a burning sensation that begins in the face or chest but often spreads throughout the entire body, requiring treatment. Hot flashes have been treated naturally for thousands of years using natural remedies. Hot flashes are not something that need to be suffered from.
Ayuraveda medicine has long been used as a treatment. Hot flashes are considered a disorder of the female reproductive system. Menopause is considered the vata (air) stage in life, so an imbalance in the air element is considered to be what causes hot flashes. Treatment typically involves the herbs ashwagandha, garlic, hawthorn berries, licorice and sandalwood, to name a few. Meditation, yoga and massage are also stressed, as the ayuravedic philosophy believes that the mind-body balance is essential to maintaining a proper balance to avoid illnesses or pesky symptoms such as hot flashes. Treatment for illness in ayuravedic medicine may include surgery, although that is usually a last resort.
For centuries people from the Andes use herbs to treat hot flashes. Treatment involves herbs that grow high in the Andean plateaus. Their strength is purported to be such that the Incans used to take it before battle in order to fuel their bloodlust. However, it was also used for the rather mundane purpose of paying taxes to the Spanish empire.
Some of these herbs aid in reducing the symptoms of hot flashes. Treatment comes from the balancing of hormones in the body, which come partially from its rich soil. Hot flashes, menopause symptoms in general, are caused by an imbalance in the three principal hormones in a woman's body: estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. The estrogen and testosterone production dip, which throws the body's progesterone production out of balance as it attempts to compensate by producing more of the hormone level than it should. This hormone imbalance is what causes hot flashes. Treatment using herbs involves the nourishment of your pituitary glands so that they produce normal hormone levels, thereby avoiding what causes hot flashes.
